I had a pretty relaxing weekend-in last week. Since I`ve decided to start my diet again I ran down to the kebab shop and got myself a chicken breast and an abundant salad, chomped away at the restaurant and made my way back indoors. The BF picked the DVD we were going to watch and I wore my felt pjs, covered myself in a thick blanket and got ready to watch the movie.
The BF picked `Rise of The Planet of the Apes` which I was rather happy about, because James Franco stars in it. Movie started, I quickly forgot about the diet as soon as the BF mentioned popcorn. There I sat munching away crisp, buttery popcorn, licking the salt off my lips `oohing` and `aahing` every time the cute little chimpanzee graced the screen.
The plot of the movie is actually quite touching with Franco playing the part of an ambitious research doctor, who strives to find the cure for Alzheimer`s Disease which has been plaguing his father for the past few years. Testing on the chimps in his laboratory which takes a wrong turn, results in him taking a baby chimp home to save him. Eventually as predicted, the cure, initially functions perfectly, but starts to manifest some glitches. The Chimpanzee named Caeser gets into a "scuffle" with his neighbor whilst trying to protect his master, mauling his finger off.
Needles to say Caeser finds himself in a "sanctuary", which is actually a prison for these ill-fated, damaged or traumatized apes. I can`t explain what makes me this angry about animal in cages, but let me just give the plain and simple reason that, that`s definitely not where they belong. So I sobbed, I sniffed and stifled my tears because I didn`t want the BF to think I was too emotional about it.
However talking to him today about how pissed I am about the circus coming to town again, he tells me that I am right and that he also learnt about the atrocities that go on. I think in disbelief "how can people pay to go watch these beautiful, magnificent animals that don`t belong here, but belong where there home is!"
It`s your choice, but please teach our children, our future, that visiting an animal circus is condoning the ill-treatment and imprisonment of animals which should be liking in their own habitat.
